Lynn’s Recollections and Reflections #29 – Becoming a Grandma

My Baby had a Baby

I’ve been waiting for a long time to join the Grandma Club and I finally got inducted on December 13, 2023, at 8:51 PM

The little nugget arrived just minutes after I made the 15-hour trek from Chicago to Dallas.

Arrived a Little Early

He made his appearance a little earlier than expected so I wasn’t at all prepared for the phone call that it was go time.

I spent about an hour panicking trying to figure out what the best way to get to Dallas would be. “Handy” calmed me down and went through the different options.

Based on last-minute and holiday flights the options and price made driving a better idea. I also needed to take my office with me as I wasn’t prepared to leave for another two weeks.

I got myself packed and organized on Tuesday night then woke up early and was on the road by 5:30 am. It was a beautiful day to drive. The sun was shining and other than some traffic in St. Louis, the drive was uneventful.

Trying to Be Helpful

They were in the hospital with the baby until Friday night so I spent two days getting the house ready, doing some last-minute shopping and errands. Of course, I also made several stops at the hospital to check up on everyone.

It’s crazy how everything changes from one generation to the next. The way my Mom did things was different than the way that I did things. The way Annie and Tommy are taking care of their newborn is different than how I did things. As luck would have it we all succeeded at keeping our kids alive and well.

Spending Christmas in Dallas

“Handy” and Emma are flying down on Friday and we will spend Christmas together. Then we will all head back home as I’m sure Tommy’s mom is dying to get here to spend her grandma time with this new little family.

I will resume my Recollections and Reflections in the New Year!
