The Best Cozy Fall Home Decor Ideas

While we still have many hot days ahead, I’m starting to lean into autumn with some cozy fall home decor ideas.

Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the warm days and the crisp cool nights. It doesn’t last long enough for me.

A cozy living room with a white couch adorned with six large pillows in shades of brown, blue, and cream, decorated for the season of autumn. A plush, round cream pillow sits on the left side. In the foreground, a white vase with dried flowers is placed on a glass-top coffee table.

Fall Decorating Ideas

With sweater weather right around the corner, I’m starting to cozy up my home in anticipation of fall.

At Living Large in A Small House, we bring out the chunky throw blankets and more throw pillows for fall. Candles will burn as the days get shorter and it’s dark at 5:00. Anticipation of the first fire in the indoor fireplace is already making me giddy.

While I love fall so much you will be surprised to hear that I don’t like orange or yellow home decor nor do I like pumpkin spice or cinnamon!! So what do I decorate with you ask? What flavors of candles do I use?

There is a time in the last few days of summer when the ripeness of autumn fills the air, and time is quiet and mellow.

The Living Space Seasonal Decorating

This year I’m happy to report that I’m leaning more into fall colors by adding some rust and copper colors to my home.

The walls in our main living space are painted Sherwin Williams 2024 Color of the Year: Upward SW6239. It’s a beautiful shade of blue that has proven to be very versatile.

I’ve tied the blue together with the rust and copper by adding some floral linen pillow covers. I found some on ETSY. I don’t have them yet but I’m sure they will bring everything together. (Pictured below in my cart)

My hydrangeas from my Quick Fire tree bring in a nice pinky color that goes so well with rust and copper.

Using natural elements like dried hydrangeas and other fall foliage in simple floral arrangements can be a beautiful part of any autumn decor. It’s such an easy way to add texture and visual interest to a room. Cutting fall foliage and bringing them indoors is a simple way to add free fall decorations to your home.

A white shelf decorated for the season of autumn displays decorative items, including old books, a clock, a green potted plant, brown bottles, a white pitcher with dried flowers, a wicker basket, a framed vintage photo, a ceramic tureen, and a white table lamp with a pleated shade.

I keep my fall decorations pretty simple and use my vintage white ironstone along with brown and neutral vintage books incorporated into my bookshelves and displays.

I love simple seasonal touches and just a subtle nod to fall.

Fall Mantel

On my fireplace mantel, I’ve used vintage silver pitchers to display some faux fall foliage along with some brass candle sticks and taper candles. In years past I’ve used a eucalyptus garland and sprinkled it with dried artichokes and figs

A decorative corner, adorned for the season of autumn, features a vase with an arrangement of green leaves and purple flowers set on a shelf. Near the vase, a gold candlestick and framed picture are visible. Adjacent is a bookshelf with antique books and a large brown glass bottle.

Natural Slipcovers and Window Treatment

Earlier this year you might recall that I switched out my white drapes for some lovely floral blue on beige linen drapery panels. I’ve been obsessed with the look and for fall this typically all-white gals has changed the blue drapes out for some beige on beige florals. Again, I’m obsessed.

Having white slipcovered furniture gives me a neutral color palette that allows me to have great options as we switch from Fall and Thanksgiving into Christmas.

However this year I’m bringing a bit bolder color scheme into my home. For a real teaser, it’s going to flow very well into my seasonal decorating ideas for the Christmas Holiday

A home wall decor setup decorated for the season of autumn features a rustic wooden shelf holding a pitcher, vase with dried flowers, and framed painting. Below it is a wall hook with a striped cloth hanging. A white cabinet with decorative items, including a pitcher and feathers, sits beneath.

My Dining Room

On my dining room table, I added some natural materials in earthy colors to a wooden tray along with some white pumpkins, more figs, fall plates, a vintage pot with vintage cutlery, and some natural beeswax candles to provide a fall focal point on the dining table.

The open shelves in my dining room are filled with white ironstone and just a sprinkling of seasonal decor

The beauty of neutral and white is that they will easily carry me through the holiday seasons. I can easily switch a few things here and there as the seasons change.

Fall Kitchen

For me, my fall kitchen is more about the stews and soups on the stove in the fall than it is about the decor.

A cozy kitchen scene with white cabinetry and a white tile backsplash, decorated for the season of autumn. Copper pans and utensils hang below a shelf adorned with a large wicker tray and four small woven pumpkin decorations. Glass bottles filled with a light-colored liquid are on the counter.

I have added some faux pumpkins to my stove hood, which I bought at Target a few years ago. They are still available in a few color options and are budget-friendly at just $5.

I’m leaving my kitchen island pretty open so that there is space for people to belly up to the bar for chili or hot apple cider.

Fall Entryway and Front Porch

In the entryway, I made a few small changes by adding vintage books, faux pumpkins, and cotton stalks in a vintage toolbox to the shelf.

A white wainscoted wall with black hooks holds a beige hat and a white handbag. The shelf above, decorated for the season of autumn, features decor items including plants, books, and a white ceramic pumpkin. A small white side table below, adorned with a lamp, candle, vase, and books, completes the scene.

A vase with faux fall foliage, which I bought at Target, looks great on my little entry table from IKEA.

Fall Outdoor Spaces

My outdoor spaces are just as important to me as the inside.

You can see how I decorated my front porch for fall HERE.

Switching out my summer pots with fall flowers makes such a big difference. My summer flowers are starting to look pretty ragged after the heat of the summer. Freshing the pots up with mums, kale, and ornamental cabbage makes such a difference as we head into the colder months.

    1. Thank you so much Maria for your kind words! The wreath is lovely but I’m afraid it will only last this season. It’s shedding like crazy every time we open the door! Lesson learned! I might make my own next fall then I won’t feel so bad that it only lasts for a few months
