Living Large in A Small House: Top 10 Blog Posts of 2024

It is so interesting to look at my Top 10 Blog Posts for 2024. This was by far my best year ever and the top posts were a mixture of home, gardening, recipes, and organizing.

in 2024 I started posting all of my recipes over on a new blog “Small House Kitchen”. What I heard loud and clear was that you enjoyed having my recipes right her on the home blog. So I made the decision to move the recipes back to Living Large in a Small House.

It was a wise move because when I look back on 2024 the recipes that were still in this space were still some of my highest ranking posts.

#1 – The Ultimate Checklist for Freshman College Students

This post to help prepare to send your child off to college went nuts this past year. I hope it continues to do well in 2025. I’m expanding it into a series for parents who are sending their kids off to school.

It doesn’t end when you drop them off at the dorm door!

#2 – Sherwin Williams 2024 Color of the Year – Upward

I painted most of my main floor Sherwin Williams 2024 Color of the Year. In my opinion it’s the perfect shade of blue. I guess lots of folks agreed with me and wanted to read more about it.

I loved the color so much I even painted the desk in my office with the same paint.

#3 – How to Make the Best Crunchy Dill Pickles

My dill pickle recipe moved from 4th place up to 3rd place this year. My cucumber plants did not do well this year. I need to move them to a different spot in the 2025 garden.

I maybe got 4 or 5 cucumbers this year and we used them for my Grandma’s Cucumber Salad.

Luckily I still have some jars in the pantry from 2023.

#4 – How to Stop Deer From Eating Your Gardens

I guess I’m not the only one who is trying to keep those pesky deer out of their garden. This post shot up to 4th place this past year. I also got a lot of comments from people with other ideas and solutions.

#5 – Swedish Potato Sausage – Our Family Christmas Tradition

Who would have guessed that this recipe would put me on the blogging map? While it’s #5 overall on my blog, if you type in Swedish Potato Sausage in Google you will find me right at the top. Usually #1.

#6 – When is the Best Time to Put out Your Oriole Feeder?

This post moved down from #2 to #6. I still think that many are interested in when and how they can encourage Orioles to come to their homes.

I’m going to mark 2025 Calendar now to set out my oriole feeder in early April. This past year I didn’t see my sweet orange birds until May but we were in California for part of April and I wasn’t keeping up with the feeder until we got home.

#7 – Ideas for Creating Dark and Moody Interior Spaces

This was a surprising top 10. I wrote a post about dark and moody interiors. My home has nothing dark and moody about it but I love the look. If I had 10 homes, they would all be a different style.

I’m actually going to try to create a bit of a dark and moody look in our downstairs bathroom this year. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

#8 – My Favorite Perennial Plants to Grow in Zone 5b

Many were interested to know what types of perennials I have in my Zone 5b garden. My flower gardens did really well this past year.

I added quite a few new perennials this summer so it will be interesting to see how they do.

This post has information to make your cleaning routine that you stick to all year long. It makes cleaning an easier chore. When you do a little bit every day, it makes it less daunting.

This post also came with FREE printables that are available in my Resource Library.

#10 – Easy Dinner with Cast Iron Skillet Chicken and Potatoes

This recipe is so popular because it’s quick and easy and you only use one pan. This would be a great recipe to whip up tonight!
