Family Events

Last year was our year of weddings and we thought we would have a break for a bit but then Kenny got engaged to Mila. We celebrated with friends and family; hosting an Engagement Party at our home this past summer.

In May Annie and Tommy announced that they were expecting our first grandbaby. In October we hosted a baby shower and then right before Christmas, we welcomed Harrison Rhodes Nellen.

Home Improvements

Peel N Stick Wallpaper in Emma’s Apartment

We installed Peel N Stick Wallpaper in Emma’s Chicago Apartment in July. She lives in a 1920’s Walk-up. The wallpaper in the dining room with paint on the cove molded ceiling brought the room to life. The video was one of my most watched videos on YouTube.

Baby’s Nursery

In October we went to Dallas to create a nursery for our grandbaby. “Handy” also installed a new front door and back patio door. Along with Tommy they also put up shiplap on one of the walls in their living room. This left the nursery to Annie and me!

I also fulfilled a bucket list trip while we were in Texas. I went to Round Top, Texas during the fall Antique Fair.

Primary Bedroom

This year we did a refresh of our primary bedroom that included painting the hardwood floors white and then liked it so much that we extended it into the hallway and down the staircase.

I made use of a beautiful antique Persian rug that I own by putting it under our bed. It looks beautiful against the white floors.

The Blog

I haven’t posted a recipe post since September and there is a reason for that. After much research, I felt like my recipes needed a home of their own.

I’m so excited to share with you that I will be launching a new blog called “Small House Kitchen” and it will be where I share all of my recipes on a food blog. My goal is to get ready to publish in February.

Living Large in a Small House will continue to be where I share my home decor, organizing, gardening, holiday, and DIY ideas.

Organizing

Yes, I will be organizing again in February for all of you who want to join me. When I pack away all of my Christmas decor, I always want to press the reset button and that starts with purging, organizing, and deep cleaning my house. I’ll share more about that in the coming weeks.

Thank You

Thank you to all of my loyal readers who continue to show up and follow along with all the goings on at the Small House. If you are following along with my Recollection Series, I really appreciate all the feedback. It’s one thing that I’ve started that makes my heart swell at how much you all are invested in my life.

The fact that my little stories have helped some people change their own lives for the better is why I do this every day.

Thank you!

Peace, Love, and Happy New Year!

WELCOME

Meet Me

After years in corporate America, I’ve channeled my interior design degree and passionate creativity into transforming our 1,300 square foot house into a cozy, inviting haven that proves beautiful living doesn’t require massive square footage.

My slight OCD tendencies fuel my love for organizing while my “Handy” husband helps bring my vintage-inspired decorating visions to life in our empty nest, where we entertain, garden, and cook from scratch.

Join me as I share practical wisdom, genuine humor, and professional insights for making the most of every square inch—because I’ve discovered that living large isn’t about the size of your home but how you fill it with style, function, and heart.

    1. Hi Marlene – I’m so glad you found me! I’m leaving Dallas on Thursday and it’s going to be so hard to be so far away from this little guy. I may be creating content from Dallas more often 🙂 Thanks for being here!
