Latest At Living Large: It’s Planting Time

May 15th is the day we can officially plant our annual flowers and vegetables. It’s been unseasonably warm here in Northern Illinois so I’ve actually pushed my planting up by a week. As of today, I’m almost done.

A hand gently holds the stem of a young seedling, showcasing the latest in healthy green growth among several other thriving seedlings in soil-filled tray cells.

This Week’s Events

When I’m not in the garden, I’ve been painting the wood for my new greenhouse. To say my house is a mess is an understatement. Between tracking in dirt and lawn debris into the house and washing painting equipment in my kitchen sink – it’s pretty nasty.

We had crazy winds this week and our yard and gardens are full of catkins from the oak trees and maple tree seeds. The catkins stick to my shoes and my clothes and the maple trees seeds are just everywhere. We also have a lovely yellow pollen that covering everything. It’s wreaking havoc with my allergies.

I’m planning to put my computer down tomorrow and get my house in order. Then I can show you what I’ve done to transition from spring to summer in my house with some simple inexpensive changes. Check back on Friday for the pop of color that I’ve added to my home.

Things That I Found Interesting This Week

  • Look at this “Kleenex” box that my friend Diane made at South House Design. It’s such an easy project and it will make having facial tissues out a pieces of fancy decor.
  • Yvonne at StoneGable shares her ideas for “The Color Beige: A Fresh Take on Classic Home Style”
  • Courtney Alllison from French Country Cottage share one of her favorite shrubs in this blog post. I’m so inspired that I’m going to find a place to put one in my garden. Her blog is beautiful and her photography amazing. She’s also an author and I just love her books. She has a new book coming on June 1st. Order your copy HERE

Behind the scenes

Hi, I’m Lynn

After years in corporate America, I’ve channeled my interior design degree and passionate creativity into transforming our 1,300 square foot house into a cozy, inviting haven that proves beautiful living doesn’t require massive square footage.

My slightly OCD tendencies fuel my love for organizing while my “Handy” husband helps bring my vintage-inspired decorating visions to life in our empty nest, where we entertain, garden, and cook from scratch.

Join me as I share practical wisdom, a little humor, and professional insights for making the most of every square inch—because I’ve discovered that living large isn’t about the size of your home but how you fill it with style, function, and heart.

About six people, including a baby, stand close together and smile in a warmly lit living room. The adults surround the baby, held by a woman in the center. A colorful painting hangs on the wall behind them.

A dark blue background with a subtle, wavy abstract line pattern running across the center, reminiscent of the flowing creativity often found when living large in a small house.
