Latest At Living Large: It’s May

I took some time off. I had a little stomach bug that had me feeling crumby for several days and then “Handy” and I went to Michigan for a long weekend.

When we were driving through Southwest Michigan, we saw tons of greenhouse hoops and we saw many blueberry farms. We asked Google about these two things. Here’s what we found out.

  • Michigan is #3 in the US of producers of annual flowers. Particularly flowering baskets, flats and …..
  • The state is #1 in blueberry productions. Turns out the glacier soil and the water table are the perfect environment for these plants.

American White Pelicans that got lost a few years ago and started following the Fox River as they head north Its so fun to see them for a few weeks in the spring now that theyve found us

What’s Been Happening

  • Things we did in Michigan
    • Handy had to go for work to pick up some materials in Grand Rapids
    • We stopped at @lizmarie store @whitecottage in Hudsonville
    • Visited Countryside Greenhouse in Allendale. This was by far the largest garden center I’ve ever seen. The prices were amazing so it’s a good thing we brought the truck.
    • Stayed in Grand Haven and explored there cute downtown on Saturday morning.
  • My niece ran in the London Marathon so I got up at 4 am last Sunday to track her on my app. This run got her @wmmajors Six Star. What this means is she has run in the Chicago, New York, Boston, Tokyo, Berlin, and London. Now she just has to run Sydney to reach the Seven Star. Go Danika!
  • We’ve been out in the garden on nice days cleaning up in anticipation of being able to plant in about a week. We have lots of gardening to do.
  • I have lots of windows to paint to start our Greenhouse remodel which we think with begin next weekend.
  • Google has not been my friend lately. It’s serving up AI generated information when you ask about anything. It also “scapes” information from blogs like mine and shares some of that in those overviews but my actual posts are pushed way down in the search queries.
  • I’m spending more time trying to figure out how to better get my content in front of followers along with continuing to work on behind the scenes updates to try to raise my ranking.
    • To that end, if you want to share my blog with a friend, it would be much appreciated!!!

Things That I Found Interesting This Week

The latest blue and white candle, adorned with a bird and floral pattern, sits on a matching plate surrounded by flowers, greenery, and decorative moss. Lit and inviting, it adds a cozy touch to the scene.
  • My friend Diane at South House Designs turned plain candles into stunning home decor.
  • Have you ever wanted to have your own business? Do you like to sew? Diane is selling her Christmas Stocking Business. If you or someone you know is looking for a turn-key business to own that will be profitable year one, you can contact her Diane@SouthHouseDesigns.com
A table set outdoors with a white cloth, plates of roasted vegetables, lemon chicken, wine glasses, bread, and olives displays the latest book cover: "Mostly French: Recipes from a Kitchen in Provence" by Makenna Held.
  • When I discovered Makenna Held’s show “La Pitchoune: Cooking in France” that was on HGTV a few years ago, I fell in love. Let’s start with that she’s cooking in Julia Child’s Home in France that she bought with her husband Chris Nyland. She also cooks without measuring. A girl after my own heart.
  • I got a copy of her first cookbook in the mail this week and I’m going to go to lunch at a book signing in Chicago at the end of the month.
  • You can read my blog post about her show HERE

Behind the scenes

Hi, I’m Lynn

After years in corporate America, I’ve channeled my interior design degree and passionate creativity into transforming our 1,300 square foot house into a cozy, inviting haven that proves beautiful living doesn’t require massive square footage.

My slightly OCD tendencies fuel my love for organizing while my “Handy” husband helps bring my vintage-inspired decorating visions to life in our empty nest, where we entertain, garden, and cook from scratch.

Join me as I share practical wisdom, a little humor, and professional insights for making the most of every square inch—because I’ve discovered that living large isn’t about the size of your home but how you fill it with style, function, and heart.

About six people, including a baby, stand close together and smile in a warmly lit living room. The adults surround the baby, held by a woman in the center. A colorful painting hangs on the wall behind them.
