Latest At Living Large: Our First Frost

We had our first frost this week. What that means for me in the gardens is that my dahlia tubers need to be dug up, tagged, dried and then stored for the winter.

We also had our fireplaces cleaned and had our first fire of the season in the house last night. It’s so cozy!

Today we are going to spend the day out in the yard, mostly raking leaves. We are also going to go and get the fall bins from the boat house, and I’m going to pack up my fall decor, and then we will get Christmas bins out. Yes, you heard me right. I’m starting Christmas.

A modern house with a steep, white A-frame roof and large windows evokes a sense of recollection, as it sits in a spacious green yard beneath a clear blue sky, surrounded by trees and framed by two stone chimneys.

This Week’s Events

We have a big home project that needs to get done. The large windows, that are above our outdoor living room, need to be replaced. So does the roof on the outdoor living space. Hopefully the work on the will start this week.

This is the reason that I’m starting Christmas decorating now. I’m hosting a Holiday Home Tour on the blog the week of November 17th and I have to get my home holiday ready. Since there will probably be days that my house is torn apart and plywood on the windows. I need to be able to photograph when the opportunity presents itself. I fear there will be quite a mess here for some time.

This is one of those projects that is pretty major and costly, which won’t result in anything fun or significant. We will just have a water-tight house again. Necessary repairs that aren’t all that fun!

I’m always anxious for the next upcoming season. Fall is my absolute favorite season. If you’re looking for some inspiration you can find it here.

Things That I Found Interesting This Week

  • Introducing peanuts to infants has caused peanut-allergies to plummet in the last decade. Our daughter did something called baby lead weaning with our grand baby. She introduced him to so many foods very early. I know he got peanut butter as one of his first foods and he doesn’t seem to be allergic to anything. You can read about peanut allergies over the last decade HERE.
  • June Lockhart from Lassie and Lost in Space died this weekend. I didn’t realize she was even alive. She was 100 years old. Read about her HERE.
  • Next weekend we turn our clocks back an hour. Most countries and two states in the US (Arizona and Hawaii) don’t observe day-light savings time. Read more about it HERE.

Behind the scenes

Hi, I’m Lynn

I traded corporate life for cozy living and now share how to make small spaces feel beautifully intentional.

With a love of vintage finds, organized chaos (emphasis on organized), and a handy husband who builds my wild ideas, I’m here to show that living large isn’t about square feet—it’s about heart, style, and good bones.

An older woman in a summer capsule wardrobe—white shirt, blue overalls, and gardening gloves—stands on grass, digging with a shovel among lush green plants and pink flowers. Trees and a white trellis frame the vibrant outdoor scene.
