Elegant Valentine’s Day Decor for a Cozy Home (Vintage & Ralph Lauren Inspired)

Valentine’s Day decorating doesn’t have to mean bright red hearts and overly themed spaces. I always prefer seasonal touches that feel layered, timeless, and at home with the rest of my decor.

This year I styled our fireplace using elegant Valentine’s Day decor inspired by classic Ralph Lauren interiors—vintage Valentine cards, velvet ribbon, soft florals, and warm candlelight. The result feels romantic and cozy, but still refined and collected.

Why I’m Loving a Ralph Lauren-Inspired Valentine’s Look

One of the things I’ve always loved about Ralph Lauren interiors is the way patterns, textures, and classic colors are layered together in a way that feels warm and inviting rather than overly decorated.

Instead of decorating for Valentine’s Day in a theme that feels temporary, I leaned into:

  • Soft pinks
  • Rose gold
  • White/Ivory
  • Green accents
  • Classic plaid ribbon
  • Natural textures

The goal was a mantel that felt romantic but still at home in the rest of our space.

Supplies for a Vintage Valentine Garland

To make this garland, I used simple materials:

  • Vintage Valentine’s cards (I picked them up at a local vintage shop for a few dollars a piece)
  • Hole punch
  • Skinny velvet ribbon
  • Plaid ribbon in Valentine-friendly tones
  • Companion ribbons for layering
  • Scissors

Optional:

  • Vintage or reproduction cards work beautifully
  • Scrap ribbon is perfect for this project (that’s what I used).

How to Make a Vintage Valentine Garland

This garland is wonderfully simple to make.

  1. Punch two holes at the top of each Valentine card
  2. Thread a skinny velvet ribbon through the holes
  3. Continue spacing cards evenly along the ribbon
  4. Leave extra ribbon on both ends for tying and draping

I love projects like this because they look intricate but come together quickly. I was able to do this project while I was in Dallas babysitting my grandbaby, during his nap time.

Things I’m Loving Right Now

How to Decorate a Valentine Mantel in an Elegant, Cozy Style

Once the garland was hung across the fireplace, I added layered ribbon bows using plaid ribbon topped with rose gold and white windowpane ribbon.

Once I had the bows I wanted, I pushed a grouping of fun ribbon through the knot of the bow. The draping of the random ribbons looks flowy and romantic. The ribbons I used were:

To finish the mantel, I added:

Keeping the accessories simple and symmetrical helped the garland remain the focal point.

Carrying the Ralph Lauren Look Through the Room

One of the easiest ways to make seasonal decorating feel intentional is to repeat one elemnent.

I found a simple $15 Valentine’s wreath at HomeGoods and added a bow made in the same style as the mantel ribbons. That one small detail tied everything together and made the decorating feel cohesive instead of scattered.

Final Thoughts

Decorating seasonally doesn’t have to mean starting from scratch or buying everything new. Sometimes the most beautiful decorations come from using what you already have—vintage pieces, scraps of ribbon, and a little creativity.

This valentine’s mantel feels romantic, classic, and cozy. Exactly the kind of atmosphere I love in the heart of winter.

How do you hang a Valentine garland on a mantel?

Lightweight garlands can be draped using a 3M hook or even clear tape.

Can you use preproduction Valentine cards?

Yes. Reproduction cards work beautifully and are easier to find in larger quantities.

What colors work for an elegant Valentine’s look?

Soft pinks, creams, light greens, rose gold, and muted plaids create a more timeless look.
