Romantic Valentine’s Day Ideas for Every Budget

The perfect date idea doesn’t have to break the bank. While a fancy dinner reservation at a nice restaurant is always lovely, there are countless ways to celebrate. Transform your dining room into a romantic setting with your favorite takeout, a bottle of wine, and candlelight. For bonus points, recreate the menu from your first date or order from your favorite restaurant.

Want something more adventurous? Consider booking a hot air balloon ride, exploring rooftop bars, or visiting a new cocktail bar. The best part about these experiences is the quality time you’ll spend together, creating memories that last far longer than a box of chocolates.

We’ve found that Valentine’s Day is a crazy day to go out to dinner. Consider celebrating the weekend before or the weekend after the actual day.  And it’s cheaper??

Creative At-Home Date Night Ideas

An at-home date night can be just as special as going out. Set up board games or card games for a fun way to spend the evening, or organize a scavenger hunt throughout your living space with clues leading to small gifts or romantic messages. With a little help from streaming services, you can host a marathon of romantic movies while enjoying gourmet chocolates.

Staying at home is our favorite way to celebrate the day. We make a special meal and “Handy” let’s me pick out the movie.

For couples who enjoy learning together, try a virtual cooking class or virtual mixology class. It’s a great way to develop a new skill while enjoying each other’s company. I’ve always wanted to take a cooking class with “Handy”. We were scheduled to do it in Spain and Italy in 2020 and then the world shut down and our trip was cancelled.

Don’t forget to consider your partner’s love language when planning – sometimes the perfect gift is simply undivided attention.

Adventure and Outdoor Celebrations

The great outdoors provides endless date ideas for active couples. Plan a bike ride to a local park or botanical garden, pack a picnic, and spend the day exploring nature together. If you’re near New York City, places like Bryant Park and Times Square offer special events during the holiday of love, while destinations like Smoke Jazz Club provide live music for a romantic evening.

We live in Chicago and some romantic things to do in the city are, lunch at Restoration Hardware and then stroll around the store dreaming about new projects. You could wander through the Art Institute, enjoy a cup of coffee and pastries at one of the hundreds of small coffee shops. Take the architecture tour or a cruise on the Spirit of Chicago.

For those seeking more excitement, try an escape room or rage room for an unconventional Valentine’s Day date. These activities offer much fun and a perfect way to bond while doing something unexpected.

Relaxation and Wellness Experiences

Sometimes the best Valentine’s Day gifts involves relaxation. Book a couples’ massage, apply face masks together, or spend the evening soaking in hot tubs. For a different take on wellness, try a dance class – it’s both romantic and a great workout.

Afternoon tea at a local restaurant can also provide a peaceful break from busy routines.
