Saturday Shopping: Splurge vs. Save

Every Saturday I share a few favorite finds—pieces I love, use, or would genuinely bring into my own home. From cozy decor to practical everyday tools, these are the things catching my eye this week.

A framed vintage photo hangs above a shelf with a blue-and-white porcelain plate and pitcher, reflecting classic shopping finds. To the right, a gold wall sconce displays a small floral arrangement with roses and greenery.

This Week’s Finds: Splurge vs. Save

This week I wanted to do something fun. When I see things I like, many times they cost more than I’m willing (or able) to spend. I found some things that I own and love, and I will share whether I splurged or saved.

#1

A shopping comparison of home decor: a gold wall vase with lilacs for $94 versus a similar gold wall vase with pink roses for $18.99; a beige gingham pillow for $39.50 or two similar pillows for $15.99.
  • I saw the brass flower vase with a hanger on someone else’s website, and she shared that she got it at Roan Iris. When I saw the price tag, I wasn’t willing to pay that much for it. While it clearly is a version that is of superior quality, I didn’t even know where I was going to put it. I looked around and found a significantly cheaper version on Amazon. That is the one I have, and I really like it.
  • I switch out my pillow covers every season, so spending a lot of money on them isn’t very practical. I like the quality of the Pottery Barn gingham pillow covers. The Amazon covers, however, are a different material, but they provide the look I want, and those are the covers I use.

#2

A shopping comparison of home decor: a $238.99 blue and white lamp vs. a similar $60.17 lamp, and a $69.95 scalloped wicker basket vs. a similar $35.00 basket, with "Splurge vs Save" at the center.

#3

A shopping comparison graphic displays two wicker side tables and two coffee makers, each with their price: the left items are more expensive ("splurge") and the right options let you save.
  • I’m working on upgrading our guest room so it’s a cozy space for our grandson and his mom and dad when they visit on the weekends. I want to use wicker end tables next to the adult bed. The Serena & Lily version is not only out of my price range; it’s too big for my space. I’m going to opt for the round Amazon rattan table.
  • When it comes to coffee, I’m not really a connoisseur, but I start every morning with a cup (or two). I used a Keurig for years, but I now have a SMEG coffee maker. I just love the look of the retro coffee maker. I don’t think I would have splurged to buy it; however, I was willing to accept it as a gift from my girls. If you want the look but not the price tag, I think the Nostalgia from Amazon is a great option.

Inspiration for a Cozy Home

  • In my Spring Home Tour post, I share a project we did in our kitchen that now houses my SMEG coffee maker and brass flower vase.
  • I wrote a gardening series a couple of years ago, and the first one has some great gardening tips for this time of year.
  • I have been a maniac trying to get my house in order. I’m purging and organizing some things in every room in the house. This post about bedroom organization has some great tips that I use in my home all the time.

If you purchased something from one of my links, thank you very much. You’re able to buy the item at the same price as you would without using my link, and I make a little commission on the sale. It helps to support my work on Living Large in A Small House. I appreciate you very much!

A peek into my life

Lynn’s Recollections & Reflections

I have a little series that started out as a journal of sorts for my kids to have about my life. It became something more.

It’s a place where I share a very personal look into my life and believe it or not have helped some people get out of unhealthy situations.

It’s a work of fiction as it relates to others as it is my recollections of events. I hope you enjoy!
