Lynn’s Recollections and Reflections #42

It’s been a bit since I’ve written anything in this series so I wanted to pop back in and share a few things.

Handwritten-style text reads “Living Large in A Small House,” with smaller text below saying “All the Things that Make a House a Home.” A small bouquet of pastel flowers on the left evokes a warm sense of recollection.

Blog Goals

Starting a new venture at this stage in my life has its challenges but mostly it has been so rewarding. At the beginning of each year, I set some goals for myself. One of those goals was to move to an ad company that pays a much higher RPM (Rate per something). Now I know you are probably thinking “I hate those ads” but it’s how I’m compensated for my work.

That goal has been on my list for several years. I finally reached the numbers I needed to apply and was accepted in August.

Another goal has always been to be published in a magazine. While a print magazine is still something I dream about, This month I was published in Wander Magazine. It’s a digital magazine that is just beautiful.

Head over to their site to see my 6-page spread. You can find the link HERE. If you sign up to get their emails you will get first access to their quarterly magazine which is filled with great information and beautiful photography.

A woman in denim stands at the door of a rustic wooden cabin with large windows, surrounded by trees. It’s the cover of a magazine titled "Wander" with the tagline "Live Well, Eat Well, Travel Well" and the subheading "The Soft Travel Issue." This scene evokes a sense of serene recollection.

Small House Kitchen Blog

While I had dreams of wild instant success with my new blog, that has happened. But I’m enjoying steady growth. I also am working with a Food Stylist who comes to my house every other week. After she makes the food I’ve cooked look very pretty, she takes amazing videos and photos of it all.

Personal Goals

I also have a lot of personal goals. Losing weight and exercising is at the top of my list but like everything, you have to work hard to achieve your goals and I’m not working very hard on this one.

Being a Good Grandma

I think that I’m crushing this one. My daughter and son-in-law might think otherwise.

Now that we have our first grandbaby, I’m enjoying every second with our little guy. I thought the fact that he is in Texas and we are in Illinois would mean we wouldn’t see him much but that hasn’t been the case. We’ve been with him just about every other month. Either Annie comes home or we head to Dallas. The little guy is 9 months old and has been on 12 airplane flights. Generation Alpha babies!!

A man with glasses and a beard is holding a baby who has a pacifier in their mouth. They are outdoors in a grassy area with trees in the background, reminiscent of cherished recollections. The man is wearing a green shirt that reads "Village of Port Barrington.

Technology is so amazing. We FaceTime with him just about every day. He’s getting old enough that he knows who we are and smiles and babbles at us like crazy when he sees us.

Signing Off

We’ve had a busy summer and the fun won’t end for a bit. We have a wedding in Florida next weekend. I’m down in Dallas helping take care of our sweet grandbaby. If you want to know all the things that are going on in our little life, sign up to be a friend of Living Large in A Small House. Peace & Love,

A blue background with hand-drawn elements sets the stage. A heart symbol flanked by two lines adds charm, while the text "Lynn xoxo" in cursive whispers a promise to make food prep easier and more delightful.

WELCOME

Meet Me

After years in corporate America, I’ve channeled my interior design degree and passionate creativity into transforming our 1,300 square foot house into a cozy, inviting haven that proves beautiful living doesn’t require massive square footage.

My slight OCD tendencies fuel my love for organizing while my “Handy” husband helps bring my vintage-inspired decorating visions to life in our empty nest, where we entertain, garden, and cook from scratch.

Join me as I share practical wisdom, genuine humor, and professional insights for making the most of every square inch—because I’ve discovered that living large isn’t about the size of your home but how you fill it with style, function, and heart.

About the elderly woman: With long gray hair and glasses, she wears a white knit sweater and hoop earrings, her gentle smile radiates warmth against the plain light gray background.
