Making Herb Salt
One way to enjoy this fresh goodness is to make herb salt. It’s so simple and easy to make and something you can enjoy for months.
While you can use regular table salt, I prefer Redmond’s Sea Salt or Kosher Salt for this recipe.
Tuscan Herb Salt
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 cup Redmond Real Sea Salt or Kosher Salt
- 1/4 cup fresh rosemary
- 1/4 cup fresh sage
- 1/4 cup fresh oregano
- 1/4 cup fresh sage
- 1 garlic clove
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a food processor with the knife blade attachment in place. Turn on and process until the mixture is blended to a very fine mixture. You may have to scrape the sides from time to time. About 3 minutes.
- Pour the salt mixture onto a baking sheet and gently shake it to distribute evenly. Let dry for 3 days at room temperature. You could add the mixture back to the food processor to break it up before storing.
- Store in an air-tight container in a cool, dry location.
Nutrition
Using the knife attachment of a food processor you just whir together salt, fresh sage, fresh oregano, fresh thyme, fresh rosemary, and garlic cloves.
Make sure to scrap any salt or herbs down, and process until the salt mixture is very finely chopped.
Spread this mixture in a thin layer on a sheet pan or baking sheet and let dry in room temperature for 3 days.
Once the herb salt has dried, put it into an air-tight container and store it in a cool dry place.
Alternative Herbs
The herbs you use are a personal choice. You can create different blends of salts by using other herbs.
You could also add lemon zest to the mix for a Mediterranean flavor.
