Using Simple Kraft Paper for Holiday Gift Wrapping

|

I’ve always loved the holiday season, and one of my favorite parts is gift wrapping. There’s something so satisfying about creating a beautifully wrapped gift for someone special. This year, I decided to stray from the typical glossy, patterned gift wrap and discovered the charming simplicity of kraft paper gift wrap.

As it turns out, kraft paper is incredibly versatile when it comes to dressing up those holiday presents. But the best part? It’s an eco-friendly, cost-effective alternative to more traditional options. I was amazed by how many creative ways I could use this simple paper to make my holiday gifts look stunning.

Incorporating kraft paper into my holiday gift-wrapping routine was a game changer. Now, I can effortlessly create unique presents that are both beautiful and sustainable. Trust me, adopting this simple paper into your gift-wrapping arsenal is worth it.

Why Choose Kraft Paper for Your Holiday Gifts

Cost-Effective and Eco-Friendly

One great reason to use kraft paper for wrapping holiday gifts is its affordability. I often find large rolls of inexpensive brown kraft paper (sometimes called butcher paper) at my local craft store or online. Not only is brown craft paper budget-friendly, but it’s also an eco-friendly choice, being biodegradable and easily recyclable.

To give you a better idea of the cost difference, here’s a comparison table of wrapping paper options:

Paper TypeApproximate Cost per Roll
Kraft Paper$5 – $10
Specialty Gift Wrap$10 – $20+

Aside from the cost, I appreciate that kraft paper is less wasteful. Many holiday wrapping papers contain non-recyclable elements like glitter or foil, and it feels good to know the plain paper I’m using won’t harm the environment.

If you want to take recycling and reusing to another level, you can use brown paper bags from the grocery store.

Kraft paper is also available in different colors that are just as cost-effective. I particularly love the white paper and blue paper.

While I prefer to purchase the economic roles of paper that are hundreds of feet long, I’ve found rolls at the dollar store which is a great way to save even more money.

Unleash Creativity with Simple Materials

Another fantastic aspect of brown kraft paper is the blank canvas it provides. With such a simple, neutral backdrop, I can let my creativity run wild! Personalizing gifts becomes a fun and satisfying process when I can customize every aspect of the wrapping according to the recipient’s taste.

Just some of the materials and techniques I like to use with kraft paper include:

  • Stamps and ink: Create repeating patterns, festive images, or personalized messages in various colors.
  • Stickers: Dress up plain paper with holiday-themed or personalized stickers, adding a touch of whimsy.
  • Ribbons and twine: Using different colors, materials, and tying techniques, I can make my gifts look rustic, elegant, or playful.
  • Washi tape: A fun and versatile decorative element that allows me to make unique, eye-catching designs.

Choosing kraft paper for holiday gift wrapping is not only a cost-effective and eco-friendly option, but it’s also an opportunity to express my creativity and add a personal touch to each gift I give.

Personalizing Gifts with Kraft Paper

I love using Kraft paper for wrapping holiday gifts because it allows me to add my own customizations and personal touches. In this section.

There are many fun gift wrap ideas online that take simple gift wrap to the next level.

Custom Tags and Decorations

A simple way to personalize your gifts is to create custom tags and decorations. I like to use gift tags made from Kraft paper and decorate them using paint, stamps, or stickers. You can even use white paint to draw or write directly on the Kraft paper itself, giving a modern and striking effect. This not only makes the wrapping more appealing, but also adds a more personal touch to your gift.

Here are a few holiday-inspired custom tag ideas:

  • Snowflakes: Cut snowflake shapes from Kraft paper and decorate with white paint.
  • Christmas trees: Hand-draw simple tree shapes with white paint for a minimalistic look.
  • Initials: Write the recipient’s initials in fancy calligraphy using a white paint marker.
  • Kraft Paper Tags: Kraft Paper tags are also available at a reasonable price.

Adding Textures and Patterns

To enhance the look of your Kraft paper-wrapped gifts, consider adding textures and patterns by using items such as washi tape, ribbons, and tissue paper. Here’s a step-by-step guide to embellishing your gifts with texture:

  1. Choose your materials: Select various types of washi tape, ribbons, or twine. You can mix and match colors or choose a uniform theme to suit your taste.
  2. Wrap your gift: Cover your present in Kraft paper as usual, making sure you secure the paper tightly. Using fun tissue paper to wrap the gift inside the box elevates the Christmas gifts.
  3. Apply the tape: Place washi tape or ribbons on the gift in different directions or create patterns. Pro tip: try using a geometric design for a modern and clean style.
  4. Secure the tape: Make sure the tape or ribbon is firmly adhered to the paper, especially at the corners and edges.

Taking the time to personalize your gifts wrapped in Kraft paper not only shows the recipient that you care but also adds your own creative flair to the wrapping process. Now you’re all set to impress your friends and family this holiday season with your own wrapping paper masterpieces!

Gift Wrapping Tip

Always turn the edges under so that you have a sharp edge at each crease.

Creative Techniques for Eye-Catching Presents

Using Nature’s Gift

I love the idea of incorporating natural elements into my gift wrapping. One of my favorite ways to do this is by using pine cones, cinnamon sticks, and even small branches from my backyard. For example, I take a simple Kraft paper-wrapped gift and tie it with baker’s twine. Then, I secure a pine cone and a cinnamon stick with the twine to create a rustic and festive look.

For a more sophisticated touch:

  1. Paint the pine cones in gold or silver to add a touch of elegance.
  2. Use white ribbons instead of twine for a cleaner appearance.

Mix and Match with Fabric and Ribbons

One thing I enjoy doing when wrapping gifts is mixing and matching different ribbons and fabric scraps to create unique and appealing presents. Here is a simple yet effective method to achieve this look:

  1. Wrap your gift in simple Kraft paper.
  2. Choose a selection of fabrics and ribbons to complement each other. You can use a pretty ribbon, a strip of fabric, or a combination of several.
  3. Layer the fabrics and ribbons on top of each other, and tie them around the gift to create a stunning effect.
  • Fabric
  • Burlap
  • Lace
  • Plaid Ribbon
  • Gold Ribbon
  • Polka-Dot Ribbon
  • White Ribbon
  • Silver Ribbon
  • Striped Ribbon

Remember, there’s no strict rule on how to mix and match your fabrics and ribbons. Trust your instincts and have fun with it! It’s all about adding a personal touch to your gift wrapping that will make your loved ones feel special this holiday season.

Other Wrapping Ideas

Have you heard of furoshiki techniques? It’s a Japanese method in which you wrap your package with fabric.

Wouldn’t old maps be a fun gift wrap? Something you might find at local flea markets or a thrift store.

Wrapping Small Tokens to Large Treasures

When it comes to holiday gifts, I like using simple kraft paper for wrapping both small tokens and large treasures. It’s versatile and gives me a chance to unleash my creativity.

There is also the option of kraft paper gift bags for those last-minute gifts that need to be wrapped. A bag saves so much time.

Finishing Touches for a Polished Look

I’ve noticed that adding the right finishing touch can make a world of difference in the final result. Depending on the size of the present and my desired look, there are different options I use to enhance the appearance of my gift.

For small gifts, I love using polka dots as my go-to pattern. Here’s a simple method for creating them:

  1. Cut a small piece of kraft paper to fit your gift.
  2. Use a white paint pen to draw small, evenly spaced polka dots on the paper.
  3. Allow the paint to dry, then wrap your present and secure it with tape.

Trust me, these adorable little polka-dot packages never fail to impress.

Now, for large-scale patterns on more substantial gifts, you might need a different approach. One option I frequently use is a DIY Christmas tree stencil.

  1. Cut a stencil out of cardstock using a Christmas tree-shape
  2. Lightly attach the stencil to the kraft paper with removable tape
  3. Use a green paint pen to fill in the tree shape on the kraft paper
  4. Allow the paint to dry, then remove the stencil, and repeat the process
  5. Once the paper is covered with your pattern, wrap the Christmas present and secure it with tape.

And voilà! A lovely, forest-inspired wrap that I’ve found is perfect for both small tokens and large treasures alike.

In Conclusion

I don’t just use my kraft paper roll for the holidays, I also use it to wrap shower gifts, birthday gifts, or quite frankly any type of gift.

Using plain brown paper has endless possibilities.
