How to Update Your Home Style in 2021

New Home Style 2021

Today I want to share my own personal ideas on how to update your home style in 2021. Quite by accident, I recently updated my great room. My grey/blue/white rug needed to be cleaned so I asked “Handy” to bring home a beautiful Persian rug that I had stored in his shop. It is so different than the look that I have. The colors are navy, reds, and greens. It certainly added a huge pop into my neutral space and I absolutely love it.

If you’re like me, you are ready for a refresh? If you simply shop your home you might be surprised what you find. It could potentially be what you need to change up your look. In my case, I spent nothing on this change. I just repurposed something I already owned. If you like the look of my rug, which is vintage, you can get this beauty for an amazing price.

This fabulous rug is from Walmart and you can find it HERE

I moved the grey rug into our bedroom which had a large expanse of hardwood floor. The area rug created a visual seating area, not to mention completely changing the look of our room. Again, I just love the change.

I’m so glad that I’ve never done the all-white. Don’t get me wrong, I love it and appreciate it. At times I’ve secretly wanted all the white. Thankfully, my pragmatic “Handy” has reined me in when I’ve wanted to go nuts with white. My walls have always had colors of soft blues, grey, and greens. My kitchen isn’t just white cabinets. I also have a black island that matches the few black wood pieces that I have in the great room. Our ceilings are wood as well as the few warm wood pieces we have in our rooms. In 2021 I’m also planning to add more woods to my home.

I believe that white is classic but I also think that the trend of all white is going to be fading a bit in 2021.

Sharing some Updated Home Style

I’m in love with the bold colored board and batten accent walls but it isn’t really my style, nor would it fit in my house but I’m crazy about it. My talented niece, Danika has been “dabbling” in home remodeling and it’s even extended to her in-law’s home. In addition to her full-time job, wife of a neurosurgeon resident and a serious mid-distance runner, she has taken on some amazing home projects. She added a DIY wall in her living room and also spent part of her vacation updating her in-law’s home. 5 Idea’s to Change Your Style in 2021

If you’re in the mood to update your home style in 2021, here are my suggestions:

  • Add some pops of bold colors; you can easily do that with paint, rugs or accessories
  • Also consider adding leather & deep rich wood toned pieces to your home
  • Is there something you have in stock that you can bring back to life (after all shoulder pads are back – who knows what you might have saved in the basement or attic 🙂 )
  • Paint is actually an inexpensive way to change the whole look and feel of a room
  • If you add more textures to your rooms, it will in fact add warmth and character to your space

It is such a breath of fresh air to change things up and freshen up your space. Have fun with it and don’t be afraid. Navy, Hunter Green, and Maroon are the new white!

Peace my friends,

  1. Great ideas, Lynn! I need to “shop my home” to see what changes I could make. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Hi Vickie – I shop my house all the time. I’m always moving things around and finding new homes for items. I get bored with things staying the same fir to long. I appreciate you reading my little blog!
