Latest At Living Large: Officially Summer at the Small House

We are in the full swing of summer. I spend a good part of my day outside either painting something for the greenhouse project or working in the garden.

We haven’t had much rain so I’m watering almost every day. We’ve had temps in the 90’s already.

I still have a lot of cleaning up to do in my perennial beds. There are areas that grass, thistles and some plants have just taken over and its a lot of work to try to get that stuff out of the ground. You can’t just pull it, you have to get down and get the roots. My back is always so sore at the end of the day.

This week I’m going to use a dapper bottle filled with a solution of cleaning vinegar, water, salt, and Dawn dishwashing detergent in them. I’m hoping that it will kill the big patches and get those roots that are a system under the dirt. It’s a never ending battle!

That being said my Peonies are beautiful this week! I have some in my office that are as big as a dinner plate once they fully opened. They started a bright fuchsia color then turned into the the pretty pink you see below and now they are the softest light pink (almost white).

A white pitcher with pink peonies and a jar candle sit on a table next to an open planner and pen, creating a cozy scene with the latest home decor softly blurred in the background.

This Week’s Events

I was supposed to be in California this week with my blogger friends but we postponed due to the sudden death of the husband of one of our dear friends and blogging buddies. You can read more about that in my last newsletter. The link is at the very bottom of this post.

We are going to take one day this week to work on some blogging things that we were going to cover while we were away. We will work together for a day via Zoom.

I’m starting to make a pile on my dining room table of the things I want to use to decorate my greenhouse. I’m getting ahead of myself as there is so much left to do but I’m pretty excited.

Emma will be home today for Father’s Day and I’m sure “Handy” will be working on the greenhouse but he partied yesterday. Two long time village employees are celebrating their 25 year Anniversary and there was a big party. Being the Mayor of our little town “Handy” had to be there for all of the festivities.

On Wednesday Annie comes into town with Harrison and we are watching him for 4 days while her and Emma go to a Bachelorette Weekend Party. It should be interesting. He’s 18 months old, walking and into everything. If you don’t hear from me next Sunday, you’ll know why! I don’t think the girls get home until Monday.

Things That I Found Interesting This Week

I’m always looking for a few feel good stories – especially when I feel like everything is going to heck in a hand basket

Behind the scenes

Hi, I’m Lynn

After years in corporate America, I’ve channeled my interior design degree and passionate creativity into transforming our 1,300 square foot house into a cozy, inviting haven that proves beautiful living doesn’t require massive square footage.

My slightly OCD tendencies fuel my love for organizing while my “Handy” husband helps bring my vintage-inspired decorating visions to life in our empty nest, where we entertain, garden, and cook from scratch.

Join me as I share practical wisdom, a little humor, and professional insights for making the most of every square inch—because I’ve discovered that living large isn’t about the size of your home but how you fill it with style, function, and heart.

An older woman in a summer capsule wardrobe—white shirt, blue overalls, and gardening gloves—stands on grass, digging with a shovel among lush green plants and pink flowers. Trees and a white trellis frame the vibrant outdoor scene.

A dark blue background with a subtle, wavy abstract line pattern running across the center, reminiscent of the flowing creativity often found when living large in a small house.
