Latest From Living Large: Baby It’s Cold Outside
Like most of the country, we are experience some pretty ugly weather. Ours in the form of cold. We’ve been in the double negative digits here in Northern Illinois.
I’m keeping my eye on our southern friends who are getting weather that can leave them paralyzed because of their infrastructures that aren’t meant for ice, snow, and cold.
I’m also keeping my eye on what is going on in our country. The time for us to pull the blanket over our heads is over. Heather Cox Richardson spells it out for us HERE. If you’re choosing to leave me now — good riddance. If you agree with me, I’d love to see comments below. It’s nice to see we aren’t alone.

What’s Been Happening This Week
This week, I was trying to get caught up with work tasks and household chores. The usual stuff. We also have a somewhat big project we are working on in our house, which requires me to do a bit of purging and reorganizing. It also means making some decisions with “Handy” about the process. I’ll keep you in the loop once we start the actual work.
What I’m Up to Next Week
This coming week will be a short one at home for me. On Wednesday morning, I’m driving to Kansas City to help my friend Diane from South House Designs make some major changes to her blog. I will be with her until Saturday morning, and then I’m heading to Dallas to help care for our grandson, who is having surgery on Tuesday. The poor baby is always sick and at two years old he’s having tubes put in his ears for the second time, and they are also removing his adenoids during the procedure.
Before I leave, I have to prep our house for Emma’s Birthday Party. She and her friends are celebrating at an Annual Ski Jumping Event that is very near to where we live on the 31st. (Her real birthday was yesterday, the 24th). I have no doubt that they will grow weary of the cold and head back here for refuge, and I don’t want the house to be a mess and I think some of them are spending the night. Keith is in charge of the motley crew — It will be interesting!

Good News I Want to Share
This article about how the UK supports its deaf communities is uplifting. Especially since two of my aunts (my mother’s sisters) were born deaf. It’s something near and dear to my heart.
This video of Henry Winkler (the Fonz) busting a move will put a smile on your face. He’s pretty agile at 80 years old. I met Henry when I worked for Scholastic, and he was signing his books in our booth at a convention.

A peek into my life
Lynn’s Recollections & Reflections
I have a little series that started out as a journal of sorts for my kids to have about my life. It became something more.
It’s a place where I share a very personal look into my life and believe it or not have helped some people get out of unhealthy situations.
It’s a work of fiction as it relates to others as it is my recollections of events. I hope you enjoy!

Happy birthday to my sweet girl! Have a safe trip.
Thank you Barb!
You are not alone Lynn. It is all too frightening what is happening. My best friend was here for a couple of days and she is just beside herself with the anxiety and anger at what is happening. I am worried about her mental health (I am worried about all of us really!) Thanks for posting that speaker.
Hi Maureen – I agree it is a very scary time. I’m scared but I’m really scared for my children and grandchildren. Take care of yourself and your friends. I think there are more of us than them. XOXO
I enjoy all of the topics on your website and blog. I live in Wisconsin, so our weather and gardening are similar, and I also have a Swedish heritage. Thank you for sharing Heather Cox Richardson’s YouTube message. I read Heather Cox Richardson’s Letters from an American every day. She gives amazing historical context for current situations but also many holidays and interesting events. She is a history professor and not a political person, but she is concerned about the direction our country is going right now. I grew up in Minneapolis, love that city, and am heartbroken. It is a city of immigrants, my Swedish great-grandparents being some of them. The immigrants over the years have added so much to the culture of the city. All are welcome. I will continue following your posts!!
Jill – Thank you for sharing some background information about Heather Cox Richardson. I’m going to have to sign up for her Letters from an American. I’m also heartbroken and I’m very scared. I hope the people who have the power to do something – do something! Thanks for sharing your story. XOXO
I too am in dismay and feel powerless with national events. And the very real fear of making a comment online is not one to take lightly. How do we as a country come back from this chaos?
Hi Deb – I’m sure you’re not surprised that there have been negative comments. The fact that people aren’t getting truthful news makes me sad. I like to use PBS as my source of news as it is an unbiased publication. The good news is that there are far outweigh the negative ones. Thank you for sharing!
